It’s been quite awhile since I wrote on here. I t’s not that I have stopped talking to God or reading His word, I have just had a lot on my plate lately. I have started a new little business through Facebook and Instagram called Ange’s Meats and Sweets. It’s mostly a pie business but occasionally I do a few other items. I’d love for you to check it out. Additionally, I have lots going on in my personal life. But that will be for another time. Today I want to take about LETTING IT OUT!
The above scripture is talking place in Egypt. The Israelites(God’s chosen people) were being used as slaves, under heavy oppression and bondage, most of the sons born to them were being killed at birth or shortly after. This was an order from the king of Egypt. It was a horrible time to be an Israelite. I bet they didn’t feel much like God’s chosen people. The pain they were enduring, with no end in sight could not be expressed in words. The scripture say’s they were groaning. Groaning is defined in the Oxford Dictionary as “1. denoting a deep inarticulate sound conveying pain, despair, pleasure, ect.”
I have had times in my life when words just can’t express my pain. It’s a deep gut wrenching hurt, sometimes from physical but often from hurts in my heart. The Israelites felt that pain. They likely felt hopeless and helpless. God had told them they would multiply and be fruitful and have their own nation. But how? All of their sons were being killed. I am blessed to have not lost a child that survived to birth. I had 1 miscarriage that was early in my pregnancy and that was heartbreaking to me. I have a few friends that have suffered the pain of their child dying. It’s a pain that I know until you have experienced you can never fully understand. But think about it ALL the Israelite babies were being murdered. When we are going through gut wrenching pain like that, we need to have others who we can go to who are in a place of strength right then. But who could they turn to every family was in a place of loss.
The deep pain brought forth groanings, and God heard them. He remembered them and His promises. Scriptures says He knew. What does He knew mean? He knew why they were in such pain, he understood the sounds as words. He knew what they needed, how to heal their hearts, how to bring them comfort, strength and meet all of their needs. They did not speak a single word, yet He knew. They did not question Him about the promises with words. Yet He remembered the promises He had given them.
So often people wonder if they are praying right, or feel that they don’t have the right words or prayers to say to get God’s attention, or His answers. But this scripture should show us that our hearts sounds, even when they are not words get His attention, remind Him of promises that we are holding on to from Him. He does not need fancy words, or specific prayers to hear us, to know what we need . I admit that sometimes my prayers come with instructions of what I think I need Him to do. Yes they are Biblically sound, like strengthen me or so and so, send your protection Lord. But the truth is I can’t see the bigger picture of what I really need they way God can. He does not need me to say words of what I need, my heart sounds are more then enough for Him to KNOW, and to answer.
So LET IT OUT. When words are not enough, or you are just to distraught to form words. When you don’t know what to say let your heart speak in sounds. Be confident that God KNOWS and HEARS you. He will answer you and meet your hearts needs. They may not be what you think you need or want to or come the way you expect them to, but He will answer you.
I believe in speaking in tongues. I see and understand it as my love language between God and me. It’s a gift of the Holy Spirit’s presence in my life. I have Christians in my life who do not believe in the speaking of tongues, for various reasons. But I think that this scripture might be the first time we see a form of speaking in tongues in the Bible. A sound or a vocalization, that comes from your heart, when words from your own language don’t come, and are heard and God knows and understands them. In this scripture we see the power that came from those groans to activate God’s recalling of promises He made, and know what they needed. In my understanding that is what speaking in tongues is. A beautiful gift given to all who believe in Jesus and have the Holy Spirit in them, a language that is understood in the heavenly realms by God, that activates His recall of His promises and for Him to meet our needs.
So LET IT OUT!! Let out your heart sounds, the gut wrenching groans, or other sounds that make no sense to you when your praying. Remember that praying is communicating to God. Unlike when I hear someone sobbing, groaning in pain, or making sounds that I may know they are hurting God knows so much more from them. He knows why, and how to meet our needs from them.
